Speaking of Psychology

CHAPTER

Why Do We Choose to Suffer?

We seek out works of art that make us feel negative emotions, when we would run away from situations in our real life. We may think about the firing squaden in ingoya, or pecasos guernica, and think about war and injustice. Negative art makes us think, and it moves us and gives us a mixture of positive and negative feelings. The feeling of being moved is actually very pleasurable. Think of shakespeare's works. Many people think they're greater than the comedies. And i think paul bloon talks about chosen suffering and unchosen suffering. Unchosen is much worse.
