You have to be smart as a salesperson and understand that at the end of the day, you're responsible for that deal. If your manager wants you to make all these calls and you think you're going to hurt that deal, you need to manage up. You need to talk to your manager and say, hey, this is not a good idea. And when I've done that, I'm going to ask you to do this in return. So it starts with the right research and the right messaging and getting in front of them.
