What Is Quantum Field Theory For?

In quantum field theory, all electrons are resonances of an underlying electron field that permeates the universe. So you can never touch the electron field. You can only touch electrons, but the electrons aren't there without theelectron field. And that's how they in fact connect to one another. They interact with one another. It's an intelligent quantum field theory.
