The Importance of Coping
I was hired to be an assistant to a male poet of great renown. And I ended up in a very bad situation of him assaulting me. So it wasn't a great environment for me to sort of bloom. One of my best friends there was instead of James Joyce, her name was Joyce James. She taught me the ropes and she said, quit smiling at people when we walk down the street. Just walk. Don't look at people, you know.
