The Origins of Marcella

In my family the oral memory was that his name was Hippia but the first time his name appears in any documents is Haims. The closest we could find was possibly something called Gats which I think means the sort of giver of arms in a religious context and so we're going with that for now. There's an old Jewish joke that somebody says to a Jewish guy why is your name Ferguson, he said well that's because when my great-great-grandfather came through immigration he was asked his name and he said for Gesson which means I've forgotten and they said yeah his name's Ferguson anyway ignore that now your friend's first name is Marcella so the
