Anan Shwaite's Sentencing
Shwaite was only able to concoct his defense that another man was responsible for Anan's murder. Judge Williams said he had taken into account a number of aggravating factors, including Shwaite's previous history of violence and death threats against Anan. He sentenced Shwaite to life in prison, the mandatory sentence for murder in New Zealand. But, with a minimum of just 12 years before he would be eligible for parole. The jury must have regarded as literally incredible the suggestion that it was a mere coincidence that your wife died at about the time you made very considerable efforts to leave, says judge.
