acetylzolamide is a chloride regaining diuretic. Metabolic alkalosis reduces your diuretic efficiency by 20 to 40%. If you believe in the chloride theory of heart failure, there's potentially other mechanisms that are helpful here. But I agree, this study in and of itself didn't answer a lot of those questions.
