Heroku build packs were a way to define the native dependencies that your application needed. railway, which is another platform service, has created this project called Nix packs. It's really good in a couple of ways: it generates the Docker file for you and anyone working with Docker files can use this. Most of the times Nix packs will produce a faster build and a smaller image size than hand crafting a Docker file from scratch.
