When communities put in protected by clanes, people are just much more likely to cycle. One of my favorite studies was done by a group of research s in the 19 eighties. They wanted to convince people to take the stairs instead of the elevator while they were at work. So what they did is they decided to add a small amount of friction to using the elevator,. It slowed the clo sing of the elevator door by 16 seconds. And again, we think that these things are our personal decisions. But instead, we're very influenced by the forces in our environment.
