The Receptacle

The receptacle is none of the objects that surround us, but rather what contains those things. We know it exists only because there must be some matrix or spatial arena in which things move and change into one another. Timaeus compares it to the odorless fluid to which people add further scents when they are making perfume. So it can only be grasped indirectly by what timaeus calls bastard reasoning.
