The heller decision allows hand gun ownership federally. But as we see with so many supreme court decisions, it often takes some time for that decision to apply to all the states. And this matters a lot because state laws are the ones that actually affect our lives. What tends to happen in american constitutional law all too often is we invoke history - which is not really what historians understand the past to be.
