I don't know if I recall him as secular humanist because he clearly was journeying for some recognition of transcendence. One wishes perhaps Havel was wounded by the communist experience that he rejected. He wasn't a philosophical materialist, but I would have to agree with you. I think he had too much confidence in the European project in its present form. But he also liked to hang around with Hollywood stars. Absolutely.
