The Demand for Oil in India
India imports 85% of its crude oil needs, and that's refined into petroleum. The government spends nearly a quarter of its export revenues to buy oil. So it's extremely keen to reduce this foreign exchange expenditure on oil. And therefore it's trying a range of alternative transportation fuels such as CNG, LPG, battery electric vehicles,. It's also tightened fuel efficiency standards way ahead of schedule.
