The Killjoys Deny It, but It's All Mechanism
The romantics ascribed to animals all sorts of capacities and forms of consciousness that the killjoys deny. The killjoy joys want to say it's all mechanism. There is some really fundamental difference in human communication, which is expressed in our extraordinary capacity for collective activity,. cultural evolution and so on and so forth. So you could see sor by their fruits, ye shall know them. I suspect i'm slightly killjoyish, as you probably spotted, but it does seem to be.
