We all need short cuts in life. It's what allows us to navigate this ever changing world without being overwhelmed by making millions of decisions per day. And how memetic desire works is we look to our circle of people, people that we trust, which are ultimately the people we aspire to be like. Only by observing others do we learn know what to desire. We don't have to go through the process of thinking for ourselves.
