There has certainly been a lot of criticism for bitan administration on how they've handled emigration, particularly at the border. It's hard to really provide a clear answer on what there goal really is at the bord do you get the sense covering this story that the're just kind of damned if you do, and damned if you don't? No one has the answers that satisfy a broad swoth of americans about the southern border.
The US southern border remains closed to asylum seekers on account of Covid-19, unless you happen to be Ukrainian.
