Vernon's future are playing at the Dublin Castle, a pub in Camden. Most venues will give bands a cut of the door takings but only after they reach a critical mass of audience say 25 which is quite a high bar as it happens. The castle gives over their back room to a promotion company that manages the whole gig like sound stage the full setup. It gives the pub enough of an attraction to turn a quiet unprofitable Sunday evening into a noisy money spinner. But there are other ways for bands to claw back a bit of cash platforms like Bandcamp give groups an online shop window with enough musically motivated footfall on the site to generate sales.
