How Do We Respond When Someone Is Not Responding to Me?
In the first instances of our communication systems, we are getting certain signals from caregivers. We actually make facial expressions of whatever will get a caregiver to amplify that mobilized exploratory excitatory state. So if it doesn't get met with that, that can also feel like misattunement and can induce a feeling of what we would call shame. When someone is not attuning to me, when someone is not responding to me, this could be death.
