The Stoics and Happiness
The Stoics thought that virtue would involve being completely independent of external circumstances. They actually recommended, if things got too much for you, they said commit suicide. One of the stoics says, be like children. When the game doesn't please them, they say, I will play no more. And that should be our attitude too. But if you stay in the game, don't complain.
