Gene Wilder had like, he adds a warmth in a humor to it that doesn't necessarily exist in Bookwomka. And I also think the parents with the- maybe the exception of like Veruca Salt's dad who clearly does stink because he's also a hyper-capitalist robber baron. They take extra pains to make the parents also seem pretty odious. It does not believe that parents are fundamentally well-intentioned people and just trying to do the best they can for their children.
