The Pyramid of Khufu was the tallest man-made structure in the world for 4,400 years until the Eiffel Tower. It probably took 10,000 people to build and covers 13 acres and arises to 481 feet. The shafts running through it were significant because they face northern stars that never set. Egyptologists say retainer sacrifice was a common practice early in the Old Kingdom.
