CHAPTER

How to Manage Fingertip Injuries That Do Not Involve the Volar Pad?

The Volar Pad of the Finger is very important because that's where we do most of our touching and feeling. Without the Volar Pad, we've really lost a lot of function of our finger. If the obliquity of the laceration takes away a good chunk of theVolar Pad, you're not going to have a very functional fingertip. The treatment for that injury is likely going to be shortening. And that may involve shortening to the DIP. That's a decision probably best made by a hand surgeon but as an emerged doc, you should know that's probably where this case is going.
