Kant was very into this distinction between the analytic and the synthetic. An example of an analytic proposition might be bachelors or unmarried males. He contrasts that all bodies are heavy, because concept of body doesn't include ness in it. And then part of kant's project is just asking how a priori synthetic propositions are possible for science.
