i think the conservatives are a, they should be careful about getting tied up by labels and trying to say that everything must be liberal or conservative. And certainly, i think one mistake that conservatirs should be very careful to avoid is simply assuming that anything that is against liberal ism has some sort of merit just because it is anti liberal. Trilling was not just in in a sort of a critical and dismissive of conservatives. He was actually trying to say liberalism needed a correction. Liberalism needed to listen to something that was not simply predicated on its own ideological premises. Now we don't have a pragmatic liberalism. We don’t have a liberalism that is sort of chastened
