The Pre Modern World View
The pre modern world view can be thought about as an artificially constrained scale of the relative values and magnitudes of things, right? This is perhaps most famously incoded in the notion of the great chain of being. And so that can actually work fairly well, in a limited way, for some time. But what it doesn't quite, what its not quite able to intuit, is that there is a unique quantitative value of zero that actually has no value whatever.
