The Miracle of Detethered Spinal Cords
Abnes' spinal cord was tethered or stuck to her sacrum right at the top of her tailbone. She had already reached that point at three months old. infiltrating her spinal cord was what they called the chaotic lipoma. In a surgery like this afterwards the greatest risk is a spinal fluid leak. But she wasn't equipped with the means for closure so they created a dura with bovine pericardium.
