How Do You Keep Ice From Melting?

Ice harvesting started in the early 1800s, but it was difficult to get enough ice for homes and factories. The first refrigerators were invented about half a century ago; they're still being made today. Ice is harvested from lakes or ponds that are frozen over by mid-May through late July when people want their drinks cool. To keep all of the ice out of harm's way, sawdust has been used as an insulating material since ancient times.
