Don't Eat a Can, Bury the Can.

Having a freezer is a bad idea. If you don't have access to backup power, or can't afford it, store food in the backs of closets and cabinets that aren't boiling hot. Canning jars are great as gifts for people with no money because they're so easy to find. There's also a lot of ways that you can preserve stuff with drying. You can also do a lot with salt vinegar and sugar preserving too.
