Hyperbole Versus Understatement
The opposite of hyperbole is lie-toties, the use of understatement for rhetorical effect. I think there's going to be a natural ebb and flow of this. People will start to associate sort of more hyperbolic headlines with the likelihood of disappointment at the far end. The lifecycle of a particular word or phrase is hastened by its own success - the more it is shared the more people see it.
