The Disadvantages of Discrimination
In the first case, if what you care about is disadvantage, then you're going to negate race as the reason why you would promote or choose one job applicant over the other. Many believe that we should have racial affirmative action because certain races have an economic or social disadvantage. So when these two notions come into conflict, that's when you force a choice. I'm strongly in favor of rectifying injustice and sometimes that will involve affirmative action policies but that's on the basis of disadvantage. But for me, I would favor the second candidate over the first candidate in the case that I outlined.
