Is the Place of Force and Coercion in Politics Necessary?
What is the place of force and coercion in politics, if any? It's remarkable to me how many people seem to think some level of initiating violence is necessary. But i don't find either of these people, matthew ridley or stephen pinker, universally optimists. They are both kind of with thomas hobbs, you know, they think there's some kind of inherent evil lurking there in people that needs to be tamed and controlled. And so we've got these gens for am rape and gens for violence within us.
