The Phoenicians, the Iron Age, the Mediterranean?
"I'm trained as a philologist and an ancient expert son, but I have a situation since childhood," he says. "I grew up in Spain, and I have this sense that there were all these peoples in the Mediterranean that were in contact with each other." The Phoenicians were Semitic speakers who were in closest contact; they hung out not only in the Levant where we know Greeks also started to hang out.
