The Importance of Export Controls in the US-China Relationship
On October 7th of last year, the Bureau of Industry and Security released new export controls that severely limited the sale of advanced high-end microchips to China. And at the time, the announcements were a bit of a shock. I would say the export controls were a lot more severe than anybody expected. They were considered an inflection point in the US-China relationship and also maybe China's tech progress generally.
