The General Crisis of the 17th Century
There is a growing interest in 17th century being a period of general crisis. The overriding claim right now or the most popular explanation is that this was a environmental or climate related crisis. And what ended up happening, I argue, is that the empires that I'm focusing on - the Ottomans and the Mughals - they turned inwards to accept Europe looks different. Even though there is material recovery after this period, Asia has been fragmented.
