The Protestant view of the Old Testament is based on accretion, which means a little by little addition. And this is how Jesus will sometimes speak, or Paul will speak like this. Sometimes it just gets condensed to the law and the prophets. But that tripartite canon that you see as the mainstream Jewish view is basically the same as the Protestant view in some ways.
