The Origins of the Jury System
Jury system evolved gradually over long periods of time, but was it always required to be unanimous? And there were special, special directions had to be given as they do now in the UK for a jury to be able to return a majority verdict. Were they taking inspiration from older legal systems? Like wasn't there something like a jury system in ancient Greece as well? Like 200 person jury for higher profile cases or something like that? Yes, so I suppose there's an earlier form of jury which was partly linked to overtaking. The opposite of what we think now, trying to enable more convictions and more confident convictions.
