The cowboy who mastered this art of cattle herding was a romantic figure and it seems that a lot of them in this effort to take pride in their hard and harrowing work their self-reliance they sought meaning in literature and romance. Many cowboy songs lament the coming of barbed wire which they present as this evil force this sort of devil's instrumentwhich is turning what had been an Eden into a hell.
