Is There a Worldview of Authorship?

I think that this worldview where the author owns the story really comes out of this idea of copyright and we want to promote creativity. I feel like there's a sort of backlash against the people who are doing this telling and retelling with in the movies and books especially if you're looking down on fan fiction or remakes as being this evidence of a dearth of creativity. What changes usually is not the details of character and plot but the themes that you're using both in terms of aesthetic and in terms of topic to tell through the story. You get a lot of different takes on those and that produces sort of different messages every time.
