It seems to me that babies and toddlers and young children aren't capable of being neurotic because there's no ego, right? Because they haven't developed that capacity to these sort of self destructive loops. But I think when you get to toddlers, you do find signs of pride, embarrassment, shame, guilt. All of this sort of actually the so called self conscious emotions. It's often put in terms of a different humans and non human animals, which is that animals could feel pain, great pain. But humans could suffer in a way that animals can't. We could feel anxiety, better past and feel guilt and feel loss. And a feeling of suffering doesn't have a non human
