The first TV interviews were actually pretty sycophantic. It wasn't for a while that they got into their stride. Robin Day in 1958 had an interview with Harold McMillan, then Prime Minister. He dared asking sort of what sound now very innocuous questions,. But which are actually quite impersonatedly. So that invented the form really and sort of Robin Day, what he became so Robin sort of pioneered it.
