The Return to Stability in Baroque Music
The tonal harmonic system is that you have an eventual return to where you started out at the end. So it's fundamentally a directional, it's a teleological sort of structure. That's extremely different from Renaissance music, which basically has a very, very weak degree of directionality. And in Baroque music, you have this intensification of musical expression that's quite striking.
