In the late 1960s, when it was most successful, a utility like Duke Energy had a bunch of power plant engineers on staff. When they had this model in 1968, you had the cheapest, fastest, easiest to build nuclear that ever existed. In 1978, by the way, this is the year before Three Mile Island, in 1978, the public utility commissions across the country started canceling all the contracts that existed. So anyone who says that Three Mile Island is responsible for the demise of nuclear industry has their timeline totally backwards.
