The shooting down of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 which killed all 298 people on board, apart from being an egregious act was exceedingly dangerous. If that had been a Western military aircraft for instance, who knows what kind of consequences there might have been? And perhaps that was another of those missed moments when the West should have woken up to the danger of what Russia had done in Crimea. Instead, it equivocated and this terrible war is a consequence of that failure. Many believe, as I've talked about today, that if Russia comes out of this with some semblance of victory, all evidence points to the fact that we should expect more of such incidents and an emboldened Russia.
