The Role of Rivers in Hinduism
Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism evolved around the river valleys of India. Ganga is a character in Mahabharath; when you talk of Shiva you have the river flowing out of his hair. The Krishna, the Kaveri, the Godavari are all considered women by Hindu tradition. Rivers play an important role in Indian religious traditions as they flood during the rainy season where gods go to sleep.
