The Importance of Breeding Females in a Group

With mere cats, dispersal is very risky. If they leave a group and try to set up a breeding unit of their own, the habitat is already subdivided into territories. So that's why they stay in the group. Their mother does all she can to prevent them from breeding. Her presence helps to slow down their sexual development. And if some one eats their mother, the daughters have a reasonable chance of taking over afterwards.
