The Positives and Negatives of Body Cameras
Body cameras really took off after 2014 and I was one of the first to wear one beginning in 2013, actually, a couple of years before it really took off nationally. The original policy direction for body cameras was really to do two main things, which is reduce use of force and reduce public complaints. Evidence there scientifically is pretty mixed, leaning positive, a mixed and often dependent on the location. In Washington, D.C., they found zero effect on 18 outcome variables.
