The Importance of Synthetic Judgments
Kant believed it was important that his whole epistemological project sort of rests on the idea that we could have these synthetic judgments a priori. And he asked the question, how are they possible? So to make a synthetic judgment where you bring your perception of the world or of the evidence together with your faculty of reason is what I believe synthesis means.
