I really struck that there were women upstairs who maybe didn't understand or realize what was going on beneath them. She kind of knowingly compares herself to garcia marquese for this, in terms of like writing a century spanning narrative and breaking some rules about character development. There are a couple like, very long lived characters in here, but nobody who goes all the way from the beginning to to the end,. which parted, wa, part of the point.
