Aquinas's Knowledge of God
We can distinguish three ways in which belief in god, for aquinas, is reasonable. First, there is a sense in which awareness of god's existence comes to us naturally. Aquinas sometimes describes this way of knowing god as knowledge that is effective having todo with the way we feel rooted in an inclination or orientation of the will. He explains how they are consistent by applying the distinction between speculative and affective knowledge. This affective knowing is a form of knowing, but it doesn't provide conclusive, necessary proofs.
