The story of the discovery of DNA is based on Watson's account in his 1968 book, The Double Helix. Rosalind was unable to share her side of the story at that time, because she had died a decade before the book was published. She has become a figurehead for marginalized and overlooked scientists but stories can distort how we see the real people behind them. We can only speculate about how the story might have been told if Rosalind Franklin lived longer.
